I shall be grateful for the same advice! RICS don’t seem helpful, as usual.

I can add another name although my experience with them was at least 10- 12 years ago. I was involved in a claim by a purchaser against McCarthy and Stone – Builders of retirement flats and apartments. Fire stopping was missing in the roof void of a second floor flat, also the service pipe ducting in the bathroom (behind the bath).
I also encountered a problem in a nearly new 2 bed terraced house of gaps in insulation resulting in cold spots on the ground floor – the owner complained the house was costing more to heat than a 70s built 4 bed detached she had moved from.

The same happened to me with the old Ombudsman and I challenged the person at the telephone, they immediately u-turned and agreed with me. Ridiculous!

I’m disappointed the RICS have still chosen a new provider for Ombudsman services, i.e. one which we (even though not found guilty) have to pay for our client to complain against us and have no way to recover those costs. Again a ridiculous situation.

    hello Michael,

I don’t have any personal experience of this issue but I do recall when working in Plymouth that the Local Authority were purportedly having issues with the North Prospect estate which was an inter-war development. If my ailing memory serves I seem to recall that the Council were looking at insulation removal costs. The estate has been substantially redeveloped since but there may well be someone in the Estates or Building Surveying departments who might have some info for you.
Good luck with your research and I look forward to seeing your published findings; many surveyors in this part of the world incur the wrath of insulation installers for telling our clients not to risk it!

Kind regards, Tim Dunne, Underwood Wright Ltd.
