From Ian Vicary, ISVA Chairman

Welcome to my first roundup of “snippets” of information that hopefully you will find helpful to keep you up to date. The ISVA will endeavour in future to provide similar “snippets” in a succinct fashion. Members are encouraged to tip us off with any other useful information that they believe might prove helpful to members – please share your knowledge and expertise with the ISVA to make us the leaders and best in practice. We can all help each other to stay on top of our game (business).

We are delighted to be returning to Towcester Race Course in Northamptonshire for the 2018 ISVA Annual Conference and AGM on TUESDAY 8TH MAY. If you have not already done so, please save the date in your diary now. Programme, full details and booking form will be available shortly.

Five Counties Conference – Wednesday 28 February 2018
ISVA has been asked to make members aware of this annual CPD event which offers up to 6 hours of formal CPD for RICS members. Five Counties Conference has been running for just short of 40 years, held for the last 15 years at the Wycombe Swan Theatre in High Wycombe, Bucks. The “Five Counties” refers to the old RICS branches of Berks, Bucks & Oxon, and Beds & Herts. It is organised by 3CPD Ltd, a not-for-profit company run by local chartered surveyors. They aim to keep prices at a reasonable level (£85.00 incl. VAT
for the day’s conference without lunch) and this year anyone registered for the APC can attend for £55.00 incl. VAT. RICS does not allow them to advertise in RICS Modus or through any other RICS channel, so ISVA is making the information available to our members in this way. The programme and booking form is available to
download from the Members’ Area of the ISVA website under << Events >>.

Updates (informal CPD)

Data Protection (GDPR)
EU rules and regulations are still upon us and this is likely to remain the case regarding the issue of data protection. All members are advised to register with ICO straight away if they have not already done so. There may well be a balance to be worked out between security of protecting personal data and storing data to protect your “vital” business interests (e.g. records to counteract a claim). ISVA is currently seeking further advice from PI broker, Fraser Miller, on this issue and hopes to provide more bespoke advice for surveyors before the projected deadline May 2018.
