ISVA MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA

Membership Criteria Benchmarks: Independence, Experience, Qualification and Professionalism
RULE 1:
To qualify for membership, applicants must run or work for an independent practice. Council will determine whether an applicant is involved with a bona fide independent practice.
RULE 2: FULL MEMBERSHIP
FRICS, MRICS and AssocRICS members can join the ISVA as Full Members, subject to application and vetting processes (e.g. PI policy and claim and complaint history),
providing reliable records and evidence of three years of post-qualification experience,
And an associate member must have “passed 3 full years in that grade of membership” as an associate member of ISVA (ref. special resolution 4th October 2022).
And “have been in practice as a sole practitioner, director or equity partner in a professional practice for a continuous period of not less than 3 years following initial qualification” (ref. current Mem and Arts )
RULE 3: ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
- a) Qualified MRICS and AssocRICS applicants who do not yet meet the post-qualification experience criteria set down by Council (e.g., 3 years ref. Rule 2) can join as Associates.
- b) and are entitled to use Assoc ISVA nominals.
RULE 4:
All qualified Principals (i.e., Directors, Partners, or Sole Practitioner) must be enrolled. Qualified staff surveyors do not have to be included but must be enrolled as Affiliates if they wish to have an ISVA Survey Licence.
RULE 5:
The following rules would apply to all ISVA members:
- a) adherence to ISVA Charter
- b) ISVA Report templates can only be used and signed by Full and Affiliate members, and at the discretion of ISVA Council, those Associate members that have a minimum of 3 years full time post-qualification experience of undertaking residential property surveys in accordance with RICS Professional Statement – “RICS Home Survey Standard” first published November 2019.
RULE 6:
Members must inform the ISVA of any changes in circumstances / work which may no longer adhere to the above rules as non-compliance or failure to do so may result in withdrawal of membership.
Notes and Definitions:
All membership applications to be measured against the terms of the ISVA Charter and the ethos of the Association.
FULL MEMBERS
Owners and other Principals who meet the post-qualification experience criteria set down by Council (e.g., 3 years).
AFFILIATES
Qualified surveyors working for a Full Member.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERS
Owners and other Principals who do not yet meet the post-qualification experience criteria set down by Council (e.g., 3 years).
RETIRED MEMBER
Retired membership status at a reduced subscription may be granted to existing members on their full retirement from practice.
HONORARY MEMBER
Honorary membership shall be in the gift of the Association and is available only to longstanding members of the Association or to those who have given outstanding service to the Association or, as the case may be, to the professions of Surveying, Valuation and management of Real Estate in its various categories.
